The flat

We live on the raised ground floor of a beautiful Victorian property in the London borough of Wandsworth. The apartment is approximately 65sqm and also has a lovely patio garden to the rear.

The flat has been recently renovated to an excellent standard and is neutrally decorated throughout. There is a spacious lounge complete with a very comfortable sofabed for two people and a dining area to one side. The wonderfully finished bathroom also has underfloor heating. The main bedroom has a double bed and lots of storage space including fitted wardrobes. A smaller, second bedroom is currently being used as an office.

The area

Although we live in the borough of Wandsworth, we are right in the intersection between three boroughs, which also include Battersea and Lambeth. We are based on the border between London travel zones 2 and 3 (see http://journeyplanner.tfl.gov.uk/im/SI-T.html).

You are within a 10-minute walk of three stations Clapham South (underground only), Balham (rail and underground) and Wandsworth (rail only). The latter two might be ideal for some of you living further afield and intending to travel to London by train.

This location is an ideal base to see not only the well-worth visiting delights of London's great landmarks, museums, galleries and shopping districts but also great for those people who may like to see London as lived by Londoners, away from the tourist trail.

Based in South West London, Chelsea (one of London's most chic areas) is a short bus ride away, as are the famous museums of South Kensington (the V&A and Natural History museum, for instance) and the Queen's residence itself, Buckingham Palace.

Otherwise, other London sites are between 15-45 minutes away on the underground (which is quite normal by London standards).

Where we live traditionally used to be a village, but of course has today been consumed by the great metropolis. Having said that, there are beautiful residences and lovely high streets all close by which belie this fact. There are also many green, open spaces just a stone's throw away. Search for images of Wandsworth Common, Wandsworth high street, Clapham Common, Clapham Old Town for an idea.

For the gourmands that may be wishing to stay here, as fellow food lovers we can recommend a number of places. Chez Bruce - one of London's most acclaimed restaurants is literally around the corner, as are many other foodie havens. With neighbours such as Michel Roux Jr, John Torode and Gordon Ramsay you'll be in very good company!

Where we are also makes a great base from which to travel slightly further afield to see the likes of Hampton Court Palace and Windsor Castle.

Availability

Ideally, we would like to swap with another couple who are likewise houseproud and would take as much as care of our property as we would their own. We will consider up to 6 people, if the location on offer fits the bill. (The study has space for a dbl mattress). Children are more than welcome to stay.

I am currently working towards a postrgaduate degree and my partner is working full-time which means because of schedules last-minute swaps will be unlikely for the next six months at least. However, with a little bit of organisation we could certainly swap for the weekend, especially for longer weekends. Ideally, a swap for the Easter break would be wonderful as would a swap for the May bank holiday and August bank holidays.

Longer breaks (about one week) might work after July.
