St Andrews hosts the 2010 Open Golf Championship in July - our house is in the old part of town, about 15 mins walk from the golf course. The original 18th century house has been recently extended with a large L-shaped kitchen/dining/living room with glass patio doors along two sides overlooking the garden. There are 3 double bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. One bedroom is on the ground floor although you have to go up 4 steps to the living room. There is separate access to the garden which is handy if you have bikes. We don't have a TV but there is wireless internet. We are a few minutes walk from the beach. St Andrews is well provided with gift shops and cafes as well as all the usual amenities. There's a swimming pool, cinema and theatre for days when the weather's not so good. You could easily spend a holiday here without having to use the car. However, if you want to go further afield, there are some lovely villages along the coast and we are within a day trip of Edinburgh, Sterling, Perth, Pitlochry, Glamis. Fife has some good walking and the nearest mountains are a couple of hours drive away.
