Our house is a comfortable extended 1940s 3-bedroom end of terrace, with 2 large living rooms, each seating 6, and a long stone-tiled kitchen-diner, with an oak table that seats 8 people. Downstairs there is also a toilet with washhandbasin and shower. Upstairs are 2 main bedrooms with double beds and a smaller bedroom with a single bed that converts to a comfortable king size, together with the main bathroom with bath, power shower over, washbasin and toilet. There is room for 2 cars to park on the front drive and the back garden is 90ft long, including a large patio with table and 6 chairs, a lawn area and decking and chairs at the far end, under the shade of a large oak tree. We are on the outskirts of a quiet estate on the North West edge of St Albans, next to Listed Victorian parkland which was converted to a large golf course 50 years ago. At the end of our small road is ancient woodland, leading to lovely old Hertfordshire countryside. There is good, extensive country walking to be had within a few minutes walk from the house.
St Albans is a leafy and attractive ancient city with a large abbey and medieval and Georgian streets in the town centre. It is sited at the Roman city of Verulamium and the remnants can be seen near the abbey. Verulamium museum has many Roman artefacts. St Albans is a busy and thriving community, with a large street market twice weekly and a good range of high street shops. There are many restaurants, cafes and pubs and a large leisure centre with swimming pool. Verulamium Park and lake is popular for strolling and handy nearby is the Waffle House at Redbournbury Mill.
St Albans is surrounded by attractive countryside and interesting places to visit, such as Hatfield House, Welwyn Garden City (built by the garden city pioneer, Ebeneeezer Howard), and Knebworth House, but is also only 20 minutes by train from St Pancas and so is an ideal base for exploring London.
